Another Saint Goes Home

By Bro. Bill Scroggs

This past month Miss Mabel Brannon departed this world to be reunited with her husband Roy, her parents and a host of other relatives and friends. She was ninety-four years young and just about a month short of her ninety-fifth birthday.  Mrs. Mabel was ready to make that journey for many years, but God still had plans for her. A simple woman, she raised her children, Phyllis and Lee then was able to see her four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

One of the legacies Mrs. Mabel left was her famous chocolate pie. Almost everyone I know knew of her special chocolate pies and grown men were seen eating their desert first just to be sure they would have room for the pie.

Another thing folks that knew Mrs. Mabel noticed was her dependability. Whether in her job at the museum or her attendance to every service at church, even when she got to the point she couldn’t see at night, she was always ready when someone would come to get her.  In Matthew 5:16 Jesus said, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”  Mrs. Mabel left a great pattern for us to follow. May we follow her example and let our light shine also.

LAWN  AND  GARDEN  REPORT

The crew had a big work day yesterday, June 29th. Sure was hot, but they got a lot of work done.  With the promise of Ms. E. Kaye’s cookies, Nolen Owen, Clayton Jones, Bro. Bill Scroggs. and Wayne Adams were persuaded to help with the moving and spreading of gravel for the walkway.  Ms. Ann Vance and Ms. E Kaye Jones got mulch placed around some of the plants and a flower bed or two cleaned out.  While all of this was going on Linda Jones, Abigayle and Jeffrey pulled grass out of the mulch that had been placed around the trees.  A good day at First Baptist of Petit Jean.
