“Come to the Mountain for His Word”

May 2017

For Real

Some days when Hadleigh comes over, she wants to “cook” us something to eat. She can play this for several minutes, varying the menu to keep it interesting.   However, sometimes it makes her hungry.  When she knows she has our attention, she lets us know she doesn’t want pretend food, but she is hungry for a real meal.

The world offers us many substitutes for the real thing, and most of the time those “real things” don’t completely satisfy us. For example, when I want meat to eat, I can’t get excited about a tofu dog or veggie burger. I want a nice chunk of steak, not overcooked, but grilled to perfection.

Too, think about the advertising of insoles. Creators advertise that those insoles are “almost like walking on air.”  Well, I can assure you that at my size, the gravitational pull on me is not anywhere close to walking on air.  The closest thing to truth is that some new trucks, containing multiple bells and whistles, make you feel as though you are riding in a car.  Some trucks ride even better when you factor in the extra room.

When it comes to our relationship with God, we should accept no substitutes, for Jesus is the real thing.  He tells us in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth and the life: No one come to the Father but by me.”  Many directions will take us somewhere, but Jesus is The Way to The Father.  Though many statements may tempt us, we must believe and remember that only Jesus is the whole truth.

The world offers a bag full of tricks promising to give us happiness, peace, and life worth living.  The truth, however, is only God is the One who allows us to come to Him through Jesus and promises that His welcome is for real and forever.

What Is Going On At Petit Jean First Baptist?

On April 2, 2017, we welcomed a new member.  Marvin VanEchaute came on profession of faith and was baptized in our Easter Service.  We pray that we can be a blessing to Marvin as he joins with us in the Lord’s work.

Our flower committee, E.Kay Jones, Ann Vance and Gwyn Gasaway have worked to improve our flower beds around the church.  A very nice job, ladies!

Easter Sunday was the end of our Annie Armstrong Mission Offering.  We met our goal of $1500.00 and closed this effort with a grand total of $2022.87.  May the Lord bless this offering as it is used to help spread His Word across all of North America.

A special “thank you” to Clayton and Linda Jones for their dedication and hard work on the church lawn and the open field.  They have taken on a big job and we truly appreciate them.

We now have a handrail at the front door of the church.  Hopefully this will prevent any mishaps as we go up and down the steps.  The rail looks very nice along with the new columns on the front and side of the building.

We Lift Up In Prayer

Blake Chapman, Robbie Collinsworth, and John Savage Morgan are serving in the military.

We have many on our prayer list who are dealing with heart problems, battling cancer or just need a special prayer.

              Love Is A Mother’s Gift

When God made mothers, He took great care
To fill their hearts with love so rare.
Their children are their greatest prize;
You can see the great love in your mother’s eyes.

Love, love is a mother’s gift
To their precious children, their hearts to lift.
Warm, tender and giving love
That grows them up healthy and happy.

Thank you, mother for all you give
To help me grow and to help me live.
I will love you forevermore,
My mother, my mom, whom I adore.

Love, love is a mother’s gift
To their precious children, their hearts to lift.
Warm, tender and giving love
That grows us up healthy and happy.
