“Come to the Mountain for His Word”
February 2016
Time is Short
By Rev. Bill Scroggs
The older we get the more we understand how valuable our time is. Minutes and hours flee by even as we try to hit the pause button on life.
Wouldn’t that be great to be able to be able to reverse life like you rewind a movie? What if you could add another day to the month? Oh, by the way we do get an extra day this month.
Where would you put the extra day if the choice was yours? Would you put it at the 2nd of January to extend the holiday? Or would you put it around one of the warmer holidays such as Memorial Day or July 4th or Labor Day to have more relaxation when it is not as cold to enjoy it?
Maybe you would put it in the week of Thanksgiving to make it a 5 day holiday. There are many different scenarios where we could extend the good times. We could even add two hours to each month or four hours to the each of the six months we have daylight savings. What a deal! Extra hours in the days when we could take off to go fishing!
However, since February is the shortest month, it seems logical to add it to the end in order to get closer to the size of the rest of the months. Any time we try to figure out a way to add hours to the day or year, we only see how finite our mind is compared to our creator who gives us times and seasons in His good pleasure.
I guess the best thing we can do is receive each day as a gift from God; thanking Him and making the most of each day.
Remember these words of the Apostle Paul in Ephesians 5:15-17, “See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Wherefore be not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.”

MIKE DURBIN, a Michigan native, serves in Detroit as a church planting catalyst on the Send North America: Detroit strategy team. He works to push back lostness in the Detroit Metro Area and in Windsor, Canada, by enlisting, equipping and encouraging church planters to plant in places where there are few evangelical churches and among people groups who are unreached or under-reached. Despite the recent downturn in Detroit’s economy, it remains the most influential city in Michigan. Pray for Mike and his wife, SHAR, as they advance God’s kingdom in Detroit, and give generously through the Cooperative Program.
