“Come to the Mountain for His Word”

October 2017

Its A Given!
We live in a world where our absolutes are moveable and what we believed would never change have become unstable. Deals were made on a handshake or even while on the telephone without being present together a man’s word was his bond. A man or woman would rather lose a sale than a friend by lying to them or cheating them.
I even secured financing (through a bank no less) over the telephone with a man I had never met. He did know some of my kinfolks and you can be sure that I ‘paid the man’ when it came time. I knew the Bible verse in Proverbs 22:1 said, “A good name is more desirable than great riches.”
John 3:16 reminds us that “God so love the world that He gave His only begotten son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
God’s love for us is a given, an absolute that is the same yesterday, today and forever. What a blessing!

We have many on our prayer list who are dealing with heart problems, battling cancer or just need a special prayer. Wayne & Phyllis Adams, Pauline Belk, Fern Bess, Paul Bess, Mable Brannon, Linda & Phil Chapman, Bob Clay Lattie Debarr, Andrea Eckul, True Fitch, Julia Frances, Samantha Frances, Gwyn Gasaway, Lew Gasaway, Lonnie & Agatha Gasaway, Caleb Hughes, Cecil Jones, Ben Lancaster, Luis Leon, Sharon Leon, Jay Scroggs, Bro. Bill & Reta Scroggs, Hank Shaw, Loyd Vance, Unspoken Requests, Our Missionaries, Our Military, All Law Enforcement Officers, Our Local & National Leaders, The United States of America and her people.

Gracious Heavenly Father, we come to you thanking you for each day you give us and for the many blessings we enjoy. We pray that you will wrap your loving arms around each one in need of your healing touch and grant them peace and health, according to your will. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.

Happy Birthday to Doug Scroggs on October 23rd!

Happy Anniversary to Bro. Bill and Reta Scroggs on October 12th!

Dixie Jackson Report
We have just completed our Dixie Jackson Mission effort. The goal was $2000 and we reached it! Praise the Lord! This money will stay in Arkansas to help missionaries and new churches just getting started. Thank you Petit Jean First Baptist for reaching “Above and Beyond”.

Teacher of the Year Award
Our own Reta Scroggs has been recognized as “Teacher of the Year” from her school in the Conway School System. This is a great honor and we congratulate you, Reta.

Harvest of Hope Food Drive
It is time for the Conway County Care Center’s annual Harvest of Hope Food Drive. Together we can make a difference in the lives of needy people by supporting the Care Center’s mission: “No one in Conway County goes hungry”. The challenge for Petit Jean First Baptist Church is to collect 25 containers of oatmeal. A table in the fellowship hall is our collection point. Please turn in any oatmeal you wish donate by October 20th.

Annual Meeting
The 164th annual meeting of the Arkansas Baptist State Convention is Nov. 7 – 8 at the Russellville First Baptist Church. The theme for this year’s meeting is “Encourage to Engage”.
There will be a special choir concert on Tuesday night of this meeting.

Pastor Appreciation
October is “Pastor Appreciation Month”. This is a good time for each of us to show our pastor and his wife just how much we appreciate them. A card or a simple act of kindness would let them know that you are aware of how much they do for our church.
