Dixie Jackson Season
No longer do our football teams have two a day practices in August, but the Razorbacks, UCA Bears and the Red wolves of ASU are ready for their season openers. However, football is not the only game in town in Arkansas. It is the season for our Dixie Jackson Arkansas State Missions Offering.
This is probably my favorite offering out of the three primary mission offerings. The Lottie Moon offering is for international missions, the Annie Armstrong Easter offering is for North American missions, but the Dixie Jackson Arkansas State Missions offering is our chance to get behind the home team, Arkansas.
Lest we forget the need in Arkansas, in our Conway-Perry County Association we find about two thirds of our counties residents have no affiliation with any church on a regular basis. Arkansans have many missions, opportunities that are exciting and can have a huge impact on our neighbors. This year’s theme is “Above and Beyond” with the theme verse, “Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.” (1 Corinthians 15:5)

“Christmas In August” A Success

Our annual mission effort in the summer is collecting funds to purchase school supplies for the children in the Baptist Children’s Home in Monticello, AR. We collected a total of $1713.76 for this effort. Thank you for your help. It was greatly appreciated! Our next mission effort will be the Dixie Jackson Offering for State Missions.

“Above and Beyond”

Today, August 27, marks the beginning of our Dixie Jackson mission effort. Dixie Jackson, the woman for whom the annual Arkansas Missions Offering was named was a beautiful example of living the Gospel. Access to formal biblical training was limited in the town of Dardanelle, Arkansas, where she and her husband, James lived and raised eight children. However, she was passionate to learn and wasted no opportunity to study Scripture on her own.

Mrs. Jackson’s greatest fulfillment came from traveling the state, training women, and spreading the word about Arkansas Baptist mission efforts. With help, Mrs. Jackson established a Week of Prayer for Arkansas State Missions. This was so successful that it was repeated yearly with an offering eventually being added. Today we celebrate the Dixie Jackson Offering for State Missions in memory of this incredible woman.
