BRO. BILL SCROGGS
Chiggers, Blackberries and Lemonade By Bro. Bill Scroggs
Back in the good old days, July was a time for pond fishing, picking blackberries and generally enjoying the ‘good old summertime.’ Part of what I do remember of those days was getting to eat almost as many berries as we picked, and being eaten on by as many chiggers as there were berries in the basket.
When you combine that with the scratches and extra heartbeats when something rustled or rattled in the bushes, those were very valuable berries. The blackberry picking time usually came after the 4th of July, which always brought out the crock that held gallons of lemonade.
The crock, in addition to dozens of lemons and probably 10-20 pounds of sugar, was cooled by a 25 pound or more block of ice. This vat of lemonade was large enough to supply our family of 7, including two teenage boys and our guests, all day and, sometimes, with enough left over for a day or two later.
The times were simpler and slower, but one thing was evident: There was love and family time enough to create memories to last a lifetime. I pray that you and yours get to spend some slower time this summer just to appreciate each other.
Remember the wise man’s words in Proverbs 15:17, “Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred therewith.”

Missionary Moments
REX and SANDY ANDREWS were reassigned to work with a people group in Northern Africa. They had focused on an Arab people in a large city until the government unexpectedly rejected their visa and gave them only a few days to leave the country. National believers came to say goodbye. One young man, a fairly new Christian, said, “We are not to be sad. God is good. You are like the men during the summer heat who walk in the street [to provide water]. When one street is done, they move to the next. You have given us a drink; now it is time for you to go to others who are thirsty.” It’s amazing the doors God is opening around the world, thanks in part to our obedience to Him and our commitment to making a difference through CP. Pray for the Andrews as they move to another street. Luke 24:47.
